The Indiana County unemployment rate went up in the month of July.
According to the PA Department of Labor and Industry, Indiana County’s unemployment rate went up four-tenths of a percent to 4.7%. That ties Indiana County with seven others at 46th among the state’s 67 counties. Among the neighboring counties, Cambria and Armstrong Counties also had 4.7% unemployment. Westmoreland was the lowest among the neighboring counties with 4.2%, Jefferson had 4.3%, and Clearfield County had 5.0%
As far as the state goes, Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate went up one-tenth of a percentage point to 3.9%, and the national rate is at 3.7%.
The total non-farm jobs in the area went down 400 to 30,500 jobs in July. This is a typical seasonal movement due mostly to additional staff being released for summer break from local schools.
