A Pittsburgh man was sentenced in federal court yesterday to serve five year in prison and four years of supervised release for his convictions on charges of conspiracy to distribute marijuana and money laundering.
36-year-old Christopher Schanck and his brother, Ryan Schanck, sold the pot on western Pennsylvania college campuses, including IUP, between 2012 and 2017. The drug operation was busted up in an investigation funded by the federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Program, with U.S. Attorney Scott Brady commending the investigators, including the Indiana Borough Police Department, Pittsburgh police, the DEA and the IRS.
Christopher Schanck conspired to deliver from 100 to 400 kilograms of marijuana. His brother, Ryan, was previously sentenced to 71 months in prison for conspiring to deliver 700 to 1,000 kilograms of marijuana and laundering more than $258,000 in proceeds from the sales. The pot was mailed to the brothers from the West Coast to Pittsburgh.
