Altoona jumped out to an early 5-1 lead but the Reading Fightin’ Phils fought back to take an 8-6 win over the Curve loss Saturday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
Reading scored seven straight runs with the help of three homers, in the third, fifth, and sixth innings, to flip a four-run deficit to a three-run advantage. Reading secured the win in the seventh with back-to-back doubles, scoring three runs.
The Curve got a two-run single from Logan Hill and a sacrifice fly from Chris Sharpe to take a 3-1 lead in the first inning. Arden Pabst then hit his third hime run of the season in the second, and Darnell Sweeney, who had doubled, scored on a Jared Oliva single.
Mitchell Tolman, Sweeney and Oliva all had multi-hit games, but the Curve’s hitters struck out fifteen times in the game.
Altoona and Reading complete their season series with the rubber match tonight. Right-hander Pedro Vazquez pitches for the Curve against Reading’s Adonis Medina.
