Oakland Avenue from Philadelphia Street to 11th Street in Indiana will close to traffic starting at seven o’clock tomorrow evening, but construction crews have already started work on the busy street.
Overnight, milling began on the road, starting at Philadelphia Street, with traffic controlled by flaggers. After it’s shaved down, the road will be patched and paved. It will be closed from 7 PM tomorrow to 7 AM on Monday. The detour will use Philadelphia Street to South 7th Street, to Wayne Avenue and Rose Street.
This project is independent of the $14 million Oakland Avenue widening project, which PennDOT hopes will get underway next year. The road will be widened to five lanes from the Walmart plaza to the Rustic Lodge in its initial phase. A second phase in the future would widen the busy Oakland Avenue corridor further, from Rustic Lodge Road to 13th Street.
