The National Night Out, the 11th Street traffic signal and the Northern Appalachian Folk Festival were discussed at last night’s Borough Council Agenda Prep Session.
Last night was Indiana Borough’s first National Night Out, an event designed to build positive relationships between the community and police and fire department and other emergency personnel. Chief Justin Schawl called last night’s event a success, and he attributed it to two people who approached him with the idea before he took office.

In other business, the council passed a resolution that shows that Indiana Borough Government is against PennDOT’s plans to remove a stop light at 11th and Philadelphia Street. Gerald Smith introduced the resolution, saying that it would cause a lot of trouble in a very walkable area.

Finally, the board also heard from Jim Dougherty of the Northern Appalachian Folk Festival requesting for a historic marker to mark the NAFF Walk of Fame in front of Spaghetti Benders on Philadelphia Street, and for permission to use the park at 2nd and Water streets for camping during the festival.
