Indiana County firefighters had a rather busy weekend, with several structure fires, mostly minor.
However, one fire early yesterday morning destroyed a home along Moween Road in the village of Moween, across the Conemaugh River from Saltsburg in Loyalhanna Township, Westmoreland County.
Saltsburg, Tunnelton, New Alexandria, Bell Township, and Slickville firefighters were summoned at 12:31 AM for a fire that began when grease ignited as the resident was cooking French fries. The flames had quickly spread from the kitchen to the rest of the house as firefighters arrived, and it took about two hours to bring them under control. Fire crews remained on scene for about three-and-a-half hours.
The family, not publicly identified, is staying with relatives. They did not have fire insurance.
