34-year-old James Brown of Rossiter is scheduled for trial later this month on charges that include homicide by vehicle and homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, but there is a hearing scheduled today in Indiana County Court that could result in his being released on bond.
Brown was at the wheel of a car that crashed into Pikel’s Top Tier Fuels in Home last July, running over a gas pump and smashing into a building. The car and building burst into flames, trapping and killing 52-year-old Melissa Myers of Commodore, who was working at the gas station.
He is also charged with accidents involving death or personal injury with not licensed, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, two counts of driving under the influence, and a host of traffic offenses.
The bond hearing today is upon a motion of the court. Judge Thomas Bianco will hold the hearing at 8:30 AM. Jury selection for Brown’s trial is scheduled to begin on August 19th.
