A 20-year-old IUP student from Pittsburgh has died in the collision of two jet skis yesterday afternoon in South Carolina.
Ciara Eiriz was pronounced dead at Hilton Head Harbor, near a boat dock at Mackay Creek between Pickney Island and Hilton Head Island. Emergency responders were dispatched at around 12:40 PM for a reported head injury in the water.
Eiriz was a graduate of Upper Saint Clair High School and was studying Human Development, Fashion, and Interior Design at IUP.
The other jet ski operator, who has not been publicly identified, was uninjured. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources is investigating. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow morning.
