A longtime member of the Indiana Community and one of the people responsible for bringing the Miracle League Program to Indiana County has passed away.
Jerry Gillette passed away on Saturday at the age of 78. Gillette was born in Macomb, Illinois, and moved to Indiana in 1992. Since his arrival in Indiana, Jerry became very active, especially with the Board of Governors at the Indiana Country Club, the County Sewage and Municipal Board, the Indiana County Republican Committee, and was a member of the Allied Club and the VFW. He was also known as an avid craftsman, doing woodworking in his leisure time.
One of the bigger projects that Jerry was known for was being a co-founder of the Miracle League of Indiana County and bringing the Miracle League field to the YMCA of Indiana County. The Miracle League is a league that allows children and adults with special needs to enjoy the game of baseball on a safe field. Co-Founder Nancy Sherry-Helsel remembered the days when the two would go out raising funds for the field.
