State police say that a man who was wanted for attempted thefts at the White Township Walmart and the Burrell Township Walmart back in late May was identified by state police.
Police sent out a notice on June 6th that they were on the lookout for a man who stole about $3,649 in electronics merchandise around 4:20 AM. Before he was able to load the items into his vehicle, he was stopped by a Walmart employee. After leaving the Indiana Walmart, he tried another theft, this time at the Blairsville Walmart at 5:24 AM, but again he was stopped by a store employee. Police had also provided a picture of the suspect.
Public Information Officer Trooper Cliff Greenfield reported that because of the media exposure, the suspect was identified as Thomas Earl Kearney, a 39-year-old man from Altoona. He was charged on June 18th with felony counts of receiving stolen property and retail theft, along with a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief. The charges were filed at District Judge Susanne Steffee’s office.
As of right now, Kearney is currently incarcerated in the Bedford County Jail and has yet to be arraigned on the charges filed in Indiana County.
