Both the faculty union and the State System of Higher Education say in a joint release that progress continues in the quest for a new labor deal, with classes at the fourteen state-owned schools scheduled to start on August 26th.
Two more days of negotiating ended yesterday at the State System offices, on the heels of two days of talks last week. The next round of bargaining is scheduled for August 8th and 9th at APSCUF’s headquarters in Harrisburg.
Chancellor Dan Greenstein praised the “spirit of goodwill” across the bargaining table and said “both sides are driven by prioritizing student success.” Speaking on behalf of APSCUF, IUP professor Dr. Jamie Martin said the negotiators continue to make important progress on the next contract” and the union looks forward to additional productive sessions next month. Martin is APSCUF’s vice president and is the chair of the union negotiating team.
Under state law, the terms of the contract that expired June 30th remain in effect until a new deal is ratified. Meanwhile State System coaches remain without a contract, with their next round of talks scheduled for August 5th and 6th.
