Kovacik Insurance of Blairsville gave up five runs to the fifth inning to Plum Post and couldn’t recover in a 10-6 loss that eliminated it from the PA Youth Legion Western Regional Monday at First Commonwealth Bank Field.
Plum staged the rally on just one hit and totaled only four for the game off Kovacik pitchers Andrew Baker and Anthony Lasser. Nine walks and five errors helped to end Kovacik’s tournament and season.
Three walks factored into the Plum rally, but it was helped along by a controversial safe call on a would-be force-out at second base that changed the course of the inning and the game, opening the door for all five runs.
Here’s Jack Benedict with more.
Kovacik ended the season with a 21-9 record and won the Indiana County Youth Legion championship in dramatic fashion by going to Brookville and sweeping a doubleheader on July 14.
