Penns Manor school board met for their regular meeting last night, where they heard from Superintendent Daren Johnston on the many energy conservation projects happening within the district.
Currently, Penns Manor school district is in its second year of participating in a program that falls under the Guaranteed Energy Savings Act, which allows school districts to work with energy service companies (ESCOs). ESCOs help design and fund projects that reduce an organization’s energy costs. One project, Johnston says, has already saved the district over $100,000.

Other projects include updated heating, ventilation, and lighting systems, renovated bathrooms, resurfacing of the track, and newly installed windows, which Johnston says were not only chosen for their energy efficient features, but safety features, as well.
Students returning or starting at the high school this fall can also expect cooler classrooms.
Johnston says that the ESCO project is approximately 85 percent complete, with many more projects to be finished by the beginning of the school year.
According to Superintendent Daren Johnston, the Penns Manor track resurfacing project, one of the many projects currently taking place at the school district, should be completed by next Wednesday, July 24.
