An investigation that began last October has led to the arrest of a 56-year-old Clymer man, who is accused of sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl.
David Oswalt is accused of 92 criminal offenses, including 10 felony offenses each of on charges of statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a victim less than 16 years of age, aggravated indecent assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and corruption of minors. There are also 20 felony offenses we will not name due to their sensitive nature. Additional felony offenses include two counts of intimidating a witness. And there are 10 misdemeanor counts each of indecent assault of a person less than 16 years of age and patronizing prostitutes.
On October 30th, Indiana County Children & Youth Services notified Indiana Borough Police of alarming text messages received by the girl, who was placed into the protective care of CYS to avoid further contact with Oswalt. Detective Leroy Anderson was assigned to the case and Borough Police worked with CYS, the District Attorney’s office, investigators from the Department of Homeland Security and agents from the FBI. Through interviews and search warrants they found evidence of multiple sexual assaults, both within the borough and at least one other location within the county.
Oswalt was taken into custody yesterday afternoon and arraigned before District Judge Guy Haberl, who set bond at $100,000 and ordered him held at the Indiana County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 1st.
