The tenant of an apartment on Maple Street in Indiana Borough was injured in an apartment fire Wednesday Afternoon.
Indiana Fire Association was initially called out at 3:15 PM to the Hamilton Apartments in the 700 block of Maple Avenue. Ron Moreau of the Indiana Fire Association said that the fire started in the kitchen area. The fire was limited to the downstairs area of Apartment 9. The occupant, who was not identified by Moreau, was burned in the fire and was taken to Indiana Regional Medical Center. The damage to the apartment would have prevented the occupant from returning home the same day.
The fire was quickly knocked down as Ron Moreau said that Indiana Fire Association got some assistance from the Homer City fire department as well.
The fire did not spread beyond the walls of the apartment, but the upstairs area did take on some smoke damage.
