From IUP Sports Information
IUP head women’s basketball coach Tom McConnell announced his team’s 2019-20 non-conference schedule Tuesday morning, which is now available on IUPAthletics.com.
The defending Atlantic Region and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crimson Hawks added six non-conference games to their league mandated schedule of 22 total regular season conference games for 2019-20.
Non-conference opponents include Davis & Elkins and West Virginia Wesleyan from the Mountain East Conference (MEC), Virginia State from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), and Pitt-Bradford of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC). IUP will host all of those contests as part of a six-game home stand to open the season.
The Crimson Hawks will play their final non-conference games away from home first on November 27 against Salem University in Salem, West Virginia, before traveling to Washington, D.C. to take on the University of D.C. on December 2.
The Crimson Hawks open their season with the PSAC / MEC Challenge November 9-10. IUP will play Davis & Elkins Saturday before facing West Virginia Wesleyan Sunday. The facility locations and start times for those games are currently to be determined.
Virginia State will serve as IUP’s next opponent with a mid-week visit November 12, with the Crimson Hawks then hosting Pitt-Bradford November 20. That game will serve as the sixth annual Education Day game, and will have a special tipoff time of 11 a.m., with area elementary schools invited to attend.
IUP’s conference schedule
In addition to playing their PSAC Western division opponents twice during the season, the Crimson Hawks will also play six games against PSAC cross-divisional opponents this year as part of their mandated league schedule.
IUP’s opponents from the PSAC East include Bloomsburg, East Stroudsburg, Mansfield, new league member Shepherd, Shippensburg, and Lock Haven. The Crimson Hawks open their PSAC conference schedule on the weekend of November 23-24 at the KCAC when they host Bloosmburg and East Stroudsburg. IUP closes out its regular season February 29 at home against Pitt-Johnstown.
The 2019 PSAC Championships begin March 2 with final four weekend March 7-8 at the highest remaining seed from the Western Division.
