Kevin Newman and Colin Moran each had four hits as the Pirates blasted the Milwaukee Brewers last night, 12-2, in a game that started two hours late because of rain.
Newman hit his sixth home run, a career high for him at any level of baseball. The rookie shortstop is hitting .324 and has solidified the shortstop position since the broken collarbone suffered in May by Erik Gonzalez. Gonzalez was 2-for-5 yesterday in a rehab start for Indianapolis, which lost to Toledo, 9-6. Another rehabbing Pirate, Gregory Polanco, was 0-for-3.

Bucs’ pitcher Steven Brault was placed on the 10-day injured list with discomfort in his pitching shoulder, and outfielder Corey Dickerson had to leave the game with groin discomfort. Pitcher Trevor Williams is away from the team on paternity leave.
Pirates closer Felipe Vazquez was named to the National League All-Star team yesterday as an injury replacement for the Brewers’ Josh Hader.
