State police have announced that they will beef up their enforcement efforts for the upcoming Independence Day Holiday.
In a news release, Indiana Station Commander Lt. Joseph Loughran says they will be out in force from July 3rd to the 7th and will adopt a “zero tolerance” policy when it comes to violations. Troopers will be on the lookout for intoxicated drivers, distracted driving and aggressive driving habits.
Last year, while the holiday driving period was only from July 3rd to the 5th, there was one fatality in the Troop A coverage area, and that was the crash into the Pikel’s Gas Station in Home Station that killed one person. In the 8 crash investigations done by State Police in the Troop A coverage area last year, there were four people injured. Police issued 626 citations, made two DUI arrests and arrested four others. Police also issued 338 speeding tickets and 62 seat belt tickets.
Motorists are reminded to drive responsibly, and if you decide to drink as part of your celebration, please don’t drive.
