The Pirates lost to the Milwaukee Brewers, 3-1 last night. Rookie Kevin Newman singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 19 games, a Pirates’ rookie record. Newman later scored on Colin Moran’s double, but Josh Bell was cut down at the plate on the same play to end the inning. The Bucs could not dent Milwaukee starter Brandon Woodruff after that.
Newman and Moran each had two hits for the Pirates, who only got two other hits, by Corey Dickerson and pitcher Jordan Lyles, who took the loss.
Here’s Joe Block with more.
Steven Brault will pitch for the Bucs this afternoon in the series finale.
