One man is in the Westmoreland County Jail and another is at large after a shooting on Tuesday just outside of Bolivar.
21-year-old Darion Martin of Fairfield Township is charged with felony prohibited possession of a firearm and firearms not to be carried without a license, along with misdemeanor simple assault, recklessly endangering, and disorderly conduct (fighting) for the incident along Market Street in West Bolivar.
State police were dispatched for a report of five shots fired from a vehicle at about 5 PM. Police say a witness told them they saw a handgun pointing out the passenger-side window of Martin’s Chevy El Camino. When they talked to Martin, they say he told them he told his passenger to fire the shots into the air “to make a statement to (his) ex-girlfriend.”
In a safe at Martin’s home, they found a handgun, which he is not permitted to have because of a prior conviction.
Martin has a number of recent court cases on his record, including an Indiana County reckless burning and endangerment case last September in which he pleaded guilty to criminal mischief; guilty pleas to terroristic threats and offensive weapons in March of this year in Westmoreland County; and a pending DUI case in Westmoreland County.
He’s being held on $500,000 bond with a hearing scheduled for July 11th.
The passenger who fired the shots fled and has not been found yet. Police have offered no name or description of him.
