Toes will be tapping and patriotism will be on display tonight in Blairsville, as the Blairsville Community Band is joined for a free outdoor concert by the U.S. Army 28th Infantry Division Band.
The concert is at the Veterans Memorial Park amphitheater at West Market and Water streets in Blairsville.
Both bands have quite a history. The 28th Infantry band has traveled the world and is based in Torrance. It performs under the baton of CW2 Aaron S. Burkle. It was formed before World War Two and in 1944 band members traded their instruments for weapons and fought in the Battle of the Bulge, losing all but 13 of its members.
The Blairsville Community Band was formed in 2000 and includes musicians from both the high school ranks and the larger community. Its annual Veterans Day concert at Blairsville High School has become an honored tradition.
Tonight’s concert will include selections by each band on their own and a combined performance. It starts at 7 PM.
