The Hartford Yard Goats used the long ball to beat the Altoona Curve, 7-3 Saturday.
Following a two-out error by Curve first baseman Jerrick Suiter, Hartford’s Bret Boswell hit a three-run blast over the right field wall to make it 3-1 Yard Goats.
The Curve answered with a two-run homer by recently-promoted outfielder Chris Sharpe, his first Double-AA home run. However, Hartford responded with three more on a solo homer, a triple, and an RBI single. They added another home run in the 8th.
Suiter went 2-for-3 with a walk for the Curve, which went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
Altoona turns to left-hander Sean Brady (2-7, 5.51 ERA) to try to avoid the sweep today against Hartford southpaw Jack Wynkoop (5-7, 3.03 ERA).
