The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is teaming up with the Tunnelton Volunteer Fire Company tomorrow (Saturday) to host an Outdoor Safety Festival at the Conemaugh and Loyalhanna Lakes.
The event from 10 AM to 2 PM will feature tours of the Conemaugh Dam, a dog search and rescue, a helicopter landing, Jaws of Life demonstration, kids’ activities, displays by the PA Fish & Boat Commission and Game Commission, and a free lunch.
The Corps of Engineers says the dam, which was completed in 1952, has prevented more than $2.2 billion in flood damage, and its effect can be seen on rivers across western Pennsylvania. The dam, according to the Corps, is able to reduce flood levels at The Point in Pittsburgh by four feet.
The event is free. If you’ve never been there and need help finding the festival, set your GPS to 1655 Auen Road, Saltsburg.
