Lefty Brandon Waddell was reassigned by the Pirates to Altoona yesterday after struggling at Indianapolis. He got the start for the Curve last night and went four innings, giving up one run and striking out five as the Curve beat Harrisburg 3-1. Beau Sulser got the win with three scoreless innings in relief. The Curve scored a run in each of the first three innings, on a groundout, a fielder’s choice, and a sacrifice fly. Jared Oliva was 3-for-3 with a double and a walk for Altoona.
James Marvel pitches for the Curve tonight against the Senators as the season’s second half gets underway.
Thanks to a big push in the final hours of voting, the Curve’s PNG Field has advanced to the finals of Ballpark Digest’s “Best Minor League Ballpark” contest for AA leagues. The stadium was trailing by twenty percentage points but closed the gap yesterday afternoon to win over Hartford, 51 to 49 percent.
Voting is open now through Sunday night, as PNG Field faces Hodgetown, the new home of the Amarillo Sod Poodles in Texas. You can vote once a day by visiting the Curve’s Facebook page or ballparkdigest.com.
