The NHL Entry draft begins Friday in Vancouver, with the Penguins holding the 21st overall pick. The league’s NHL.com website puts forth three names the Penguins might consider: 17-year-old defenseman Thomas Harley, offensive defenseman Cameron York, and high-scoring forward Bobby Brink. The Pens could also trade the pick and pick up a couple of players in the second round.
OTHER NHL NOTES:
San Jose defenseman Erik Karlsson has agreed to an eight-year deal worth $92 million. The two-time Norris Trophy winner had groin surgery earlier this month and is expected to fully recover for the start of next season.
The Ducks have promoted Dallas Eakins to head coach. Eakins coached Anaheim’s AHL affiliate in San Diego for the past four seasons.
Ahead of Friday’s NHL draft, the Rangers have acquired defenseman Jacob Trouba from the Jets for the 20th overall pick in this weekend’s draft and defenseman Neal Pionk.
