The Pirates had to rally, but the bats and the bullpen came through as the Bucs beat the Marlins yesterday and took the series in Miami. Melky Cabrera’s two-run triple in the seventh tied the game at four before Josh Bell doubled him in for the go-ahead run. The bullpen threw four innings of two-hit ball as they preserved a 5-4 win against the Marlins. Richard Rodriguez picked up the win in relief of Chris Archer and Kyle Crick and Felipe Vazquez shut down the Marlins over the final three innings, with Vazquez earning his 16th save. Pittsburgh took two-of-three from the Marlins.
Here’s more from Greg Brown.
The Pirates will be off today before they welcome the Tigers to town for a brief two-game set. Rookie Mitch Keller will get his third career start, having given up 12 runs in just seven innings thus far. Detroit will counter with left-hander Daniel Norris, who has lost his last four decisions.
Trevor Williams will be expected from the Injured List to start Wednesday’s game against the Tigers. Williams is 2-and-1 with a 3.33 ERA and has been out since May 16th with a strained side.
Reliever Keone Kela, who has been on the injured list since May 8th, has been moved to the 60-day IL with continuing right-shoulder issues. There is no timetable for his return.
