Altoona beat Binghampton, 5-1 last night behind seven strong innings from Pedro Vasquez and home runs from Hunter Owen and Bligh Madris.
Trailing 1-0, the Curve tied the game on Owen’s league-leading 15th homer of the season leading off the fourth inning. Then in the sixth, with Owen aboard after a walk, Madris went deep for a two-run shot to put Altoona on top for good. Jerrick Suiter’s two-run single int he seventh rounded out the scoring.
Vasquez gave up just four hits in raising his record to 6-1. Yeudy Garcia pitched two scoreless innings to nail down the win.
Looking for the sweep today, the Curve will send Beau Sulser (4-0, 1.34 ERA) to the mound in Binghampton. then, they come home for a three-game series against Harrisburg, the first-place team in the Eastern League Western Division. The Curve are second, six games back. Games one and two of the series will conclude the first-half of the season. The second half opens on Wednesday. The Eastern League has gone to a two-half format this year
