It’s a typical busy June weekend around Indiana County, with many events on the schedule, including the opening of the Jimmy Stewart Air Show and the first full day of Saltsburg’s Canal Days.
The air show opens this morning at 8 AM with the pancake and sausage breakfast benefiting the Chevy Chase Community Center. That lasts until 1 PM. During the morning, air show patrons can get up close to the historic aircraft that have come to Indiana for the weekend, and starting at noon, the planes will take to the sky for amazing aerobatic stunts, including the “Immortal Red Baron” production, veteran aerobatic stunt pilots Steve Covington, Manfred Radius, Paul Daugherty, Scott Francis and Bryan Jorgenson.
Charlie Cartledge will be flying his restored World War two-era TBM Avenger, the same two-seater bomber model in which George H.W. Bush was shot down over the Pacific. SkyDive Pennsylvania will also be jumping during the air show.
Tonight, there’s a Hangar Dance tonight featuring the country band 10A/C Courage, and many, many more show events. You can visit jimmystewartairshow.com/events for the full schedule.
After opening last night, the 38th Annual Saltsburg Canal Days today will feature opening ceremonies and a flag retirement program at 10 AM, with music scheduled all through the day and into the night, and a parade at noon. You’ll cap off the night with fireworks at 10 PM.
Canal Days continues tomorrow from noon to 5 PM.
