Even as Indiana County braces for more potential storms today, residents across the county are cleaning up after yesterday’s severe weather, and that was after harsh weather over the weekend.
Between four o’clock yesterday afternoon and 11:30 at night, there were seventeen fire department calls for storm-related events in the area, and firefighters also were dispatched for a vehicle accident, a smoke investigation, a structure fire, and an odor investigation.
Firefighters from Cherryhill Township got the first summons, followed through the rest of the afternoon and evening by Indiana, Brush Valley, Homer City, Coal Run/Iselin, Black Lick and Blairsville, Elderton, Indiana again for two incidents within three minutes of each other, Blairsville for a second time, Coral-Graceton, Indiana for a fourth time, Coral-Graceton to two addresses at the same time, Plumville, Cherryhill Township, Indiana for a fifth time, Coal Run/Iselin, Plumville, Marion Center, and Aultman.
The storm-related calls were for pumping out basements, trees and lines down, and in a couple of cases poles that were down. There were funnel clouds spotted over Indiana but they did not touch down, and there was large hail falling throughout the county. Wind speeds in the upper atmosphere were more than 80 miles per hour with rotation.
Southern Indiana County is under a flood warning until 8:15 this morning and the entire county is under a flood watch until 2 AM tomorrow.
