For the third straight month, Indiana County’s seasonable adjusted unemployment rate is unchanged, and it’s a full percentage point lower than it was a year ago.
The April rate was at 4.1 percent, the same as in February and March, placing Indiana County in a four-way tie for 43rd in the state. It is a record low unemployment rate dating back as far as 1976.
Among our neighbors, Westmoreland County and Jefferson County top Indiana County at 3.8 percent and 3.9 percent, respectively. Clearfield and Armstrong counties are just behind at 4.2 percent and Cambria County’s unemployment rate is 4.5 percent.
The state rate is 3.8 percent. The best rate in Pennsylvania is in Chester County, at 2.6 percent, and the worst rate is Forest County’s 5.5 percent.
