Lorraine Coy Getty, 100, of Indiana, died Thursday, May 23, 2019, at St. Andrew’s Village.
A daughter of the late Arthur Norman and Bessie Shaffer Coy, she was born Jan. 31, 1919, in Kittanning. She lived in Aultman for 52 years, moving to Indiana in 1984.
Mrs. Getty worked as a physician’s aide at Torrance State Hospital for nearly 27 years. She retired in 1980. Mrs. Getty attended Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Indiana. Lorraine, affectionately called “Nann”, was the family matriarch of her grandchildren, the Bartek siblings, Steve, Stacy and Rich and their families. She had unconditional love for her family, was a very independent person, was generous to a fault, a very hard-working person, kept a spotless home, dressed very fashionably and kept all aspects of her life organized. She loved to travel and enjoyed many family vacations. One of her favorite places to go was Ireland. She also visited Hawaii and Rome, twice. The second Rome visit came when she was 92, to witness her great-granddaughters’ wedding. Lorraine drew upon her physician’s aide experience to be personal caregiver to her daughter Judy when she became terminally ill. She did the same when her husband Jim, a WWII Navy vet, became terminally ill. She was a strong willed and caring person. Nann was always lending a helping hand. She was always present and supportive during life’s big events (weddings, births and graduations). We were blessed to share so much of our lives with her. She was classy, friendly, honest, had a good sense of humor, loved to converse, loved to shop, was a very strong-minded person, quietly religious, believed in doing the right thing and was truly one in a million. Her attributes have shaped our lives and she will never be forgotten.
She is survived by three grandchildren: Stephen Bartek and wife Debbie, of Indiana; Stacy Loiacono and husband Joe, of Ellicott City, MD; Richard Bartek and wife Susan, of Saxonburg; seven great-grandchildren: James Bartek and wife Angela, of Indiana; Judy (Bartek) Toretti and husband Joe, of Los Angeles, CA; Samantha, Jack and Luke Bartek, of Saxonburg; and Julian and Jessica Loiacono, of Ellicott City, MD; two great-great-grandchildren: Cora Lorraine Bartek, of Indiana; and Rex Etienne Toretti, of Los Angeles, CA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Ann Bartek in 1982; her husband, James H. Getty in 1992; four sisters: Claressa Archer, Bessie Brown, Augusta Holstein, Mary Thompson; and a brother, Norman Coy.
Per Lorraine’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Robinson-Lytle, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
If you so wish, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made in Lorraine’s honor, to VNA of Indiana County, 850 Hospital Road, Suite 3000, Indiana, PA 15701.
