The state’s Center for Workforce Information & Analysis released its “2018 Occupational Wages” report, a massive data bank of wages paid for virtually every job category in Pennsylvania, including county-by-county reports of specific jobs and what they paid last year.
The tables are meant to help job-seekers compare wages from one county versus another for more than 800 occupations. They are arranged by average hourly wage, average annual wage, median annual wage, entry level and experienced level wages, and a “mid-range annual wage”.
In every category, Indiana County lags well behind the rest of the state’s numbers taken as a whole:
- The average hourly wage for the state is $24.05. For Indiana County, it’s $20.63
- The average annual wage for the state is $50,030. Indiana County’s workers earn an average annual wage of $42,910.
- Indiana County also trails in median annual wage, with earners statewide making a median salary of $38,450, compared to only $32,970 in Indiana County.
- The average starting salary for Pennsylvanians is $22,410, but it’s only $19,390 in Indiana County. And the gap is even larger for experienced workers. The statewide average is $63,830, while Indiana County’s experienced workforce is earning more than $9,000 less, at $54,670.
The Center for Workforce Information & Analysis is a division of the state Department of Labor & Industry. Data was compiled in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Labor.
