The Indiana Area School Board’s Building, Grounds, & Transportation Committee meets tonight, with further discussion on the district’s elementary school lineup on the table.
The committee has been examining the “final four” options for dealing with the long-term debate over its four elementary schools. Tonight, it will look at consulting engineering firm Architectural Innovations’ concept for replacing the Ben Franklin Elementary School while upgrading Eisenhower Elementary and East Pike Elementary. That option would cost as much as $30 million for a new Ben Franklin, and about $17.5 million for the renovations to the other two buildings. Under this plan, the Horace Mann Elementary School would be closed.
The school district urges residents to attend and offer their viewpoints at the committee meeting, which is at 6 PM at the administration board room at East Pike.
Marion Center’s school board also is scheduled to meet tonight. The directors will vote on a 2019-20 budget and tax burden, and on the ICTC budget, with the district’s share set at $682,797.
There are also a number of personnel items on the agenda and some maintenance items such as asphalt sealing and the purchase of a new tractor with mowing deck. The school board will also be presented with a list of 99 seniors who have tentatively qualified for graduation.
