Today, students at the Indiana Area School District launched a weather balloon as part of their class studies.
The weather balloon is serving as part of experiments as it is expected to head high into Earth’s atmosphere. The balloon has with it a tiny computer that is measuring weather data and a GPS tracker on it. Keaton Stants, a technical education teacher at the school said that when the weather balloon finally explodes, there will be a team ready to recover the computer near Tyrone.
Stants added that along with the small computer and GPS, the weather balloon will have a go-pro camera that they hope to capture the edge of the Earth from near outer space.
Stants added that a lot of outside agencies, like the Jimmy Stewart Airport and BCiT, and multiple school departments like tech ed,, science, engineering and math, came together for this true demonstration of what STEM education can be.
