The County Commissioners renewed their call to get broadband internet and cellular service to rural areas of the county at their meeting this (Wednesday) morning.
At the end of the meeting, County Commissioner Rod Ruddock said the idea was introduced several years ago when new radio towers went into place for the emergency network. Ruddock said that cell phone and internet companies were invited to a meeting several years ago, and out of that, Banks Township was the only area that received cellular service. Ruddock says that other towers that were a part of that plan are also great sites to help serve an area of the county’s population that has not been served.

This was a sentiment shared by all three county commissioners, and Ruddock said that the county needs to be more aggressive on this issue.
In other business, the commissioners approved a multi-modal corridor cooperation agreement between the borough, IUP and the county for the design, engineering and construction of the proposed Hoodlebug Extension through Indiana Borough and IUP Campus. The county’s total contribution to the project will not exceed $60,000.
