Police and mental health caregivers were able to defuse a potentially dangerous situation yesterday afternoon at a home along Grant Street in White Township.
State police say a 47-year-old woman called 911 at 1:25 PM to report that someone was attempting to break in to her second-story home. After speaking with her they determined that she was experiencing “significant mental health issues which required immediate attention”. The woman had barricaded her front door and was standing outside in a defensive posture, holding a weapon.
State police, Indiana Borough Police, The Open Door Mobile Crisis unit, Indiana firefighters, and Citizens Ambulance all responded. State troopers and Borough Police officers were able to gain access and restrain the woman so she could be transported to the Indiana Regional Medical Center for psychiatric evaluation.
