The arson fire that struck the Harmony Grove Lutheran Church in Washington Township on February 26th has brought about an increased public concern for the safety and security of area churches.
State police want you to know that they have been conducting patrols and visits to churches and houses of worship as often as they can. In fact, this past weekend, troopers from the Indiana station checked on 59 churches throughout Indiana County.
State police spokesman Trooper Clifford Greenfield says they’d like the public to know that they often check on houses of worship, so if you see a trooper at your church, it doesn’t necessarily mean something has happened, but is more likely a routine visit, much like security checks they do at schools.
The Harmony Grove Lutheran Church fire was deliberately set and remains under investigation, with no arrests made. Anyone with information on that blaze or any of the other recent fires in the northern Indiana County area should contact police at 357-1960.
Trooper Greenfield will visit Indiana In the Morning on WCCS on Wednesday morning at 7:45.
