IUP has announced a new scholarship for Armstrong County students interested in joining the Crimson Hawks football team.
The $25,000 scholarship was contributed by the family of George “Butch” Aggen, an IUP alumna from 1976 from the Freeport area. Aggen said that his undergraduate and graduate school training from IUP lead to an understanding how important teamwork is in life, and credits his volunteer time with Coach Bill Neal to work with disabled children for providing the groundwork for his commitment to education and business.
The scholarship is earmarked for IUP football players graduating from Armstrong County. The first of these scholarships was awarded at the annual Armstrong County Sports Hall of Fame induction dinner, and it was given to red shirt running back Duane Brown, a standout player from Apollo-Ridge School District.
The new scholarship is a part of the current IUP “Imagine Unlimited” campaign, looking to raise $75 million for the university’s efforts.
