Indiana County’s unemployment numbers went unchanged in the month of March.
The state department of Labor and Industry released their regional workforce statistics and for Indiana County, the unemployment rate remained at 4.1 percent. That puts Indiana County in a four-way tie for 40th out of 67 counties. That tie includes nearby Armstrong County.
Speaking of our neighboring counties, Jefferson County had the lowest unemployment rate among our neighboring counties at 3.8 percent. Westmoreland County had 3.9 percent, while Clearfield had 4.3 percent and Cambria County had the highest at 4.6 percent.
Total non-farm jobs in Indiana County went essentially unchanged at 32,100 in the month of March. All major job areas went essentially unchanged over the month.
The county with the lowest unemployment rate was Chester County with 2.8 percent, while the highest unemployment rate was Forest County with 6.0 percent. The statewide unemployment rate went down one-tenth of a percentage point to 3.9 percent, while the national rate remained unchanged at 3.8 percent.
