A group of gasoline suppliers in Pennsylvania has filed a formal protest of a plan to reversing gas pipeline flow in western Pennsylvania.
Buckeye Partners, based in Houston, Texas, wants to bring fuel from the Midwest to western PA, but after being turned down by the state Public Utility Commission last year, the company is attempting to bypass the state regulation and gain approval for bi-directional flow on its Laurel Pipeline through the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The section that would be affected is from the Midland Terminal to the El Dorado Terminal in Altoona. That line runs through a section of West Wheatfield and East Wheatfield townships.
The coalition of gasoline retailers is made up of Sheetz, Giant Eagle, Guttman Energy, Lucknow-Highspire Terminals LLC, Monroe Energy LLC, and Philadelphia Energy Solutions Refining and Marketing LLC. They protested Buckeye’s plan to the PUC last year and have now filed a complaint with the federal agency, saying it will bring higher gasoline prices to the region. Buckeye contends its plan will mean lower-priced gas to western PA.
