In his Major League debut, Pirates shortstop Cole Tucker smashed a tie-breaking two-run home run to straightaway center field in the bottom of the fifth inning, and the 3-1 lead held up as the game was shortened to five innings by rain. The Bucs go for the sweep against the Giants this afternoon at PNC Park, with Chris Archer on the mound for the Pirates.
The Pirates called up Tucker, their first-round draft choice in 2014 and outfielder Brian Reynolds from the minors after placing shortstop Eric Gonzalez on the 60-day injured list with a broken clavicle and outfielder Starling Marte on the 10-day injured list with contusions suffered when he collided with Gonzalez on Friday night.
Reynolds, who was acquired from the Giants last year in the Andrew McCutchen trade, had a single in his big league debut.
Here’s the game recap from Greg Brown.
