This year’s guest speaker was Marilyn Zimmerman, who was the victim of a violent crime when the ex-boyfriend of her daughter broke into the house, cut the phone and electric lines, and threatened to kill Marilyn and her husband, Bob Curry. He killed Bob but Marilyn survived. Since then, she’s been able to turn tragedy into triumph through some of her activities. She talked about how God guided her to work with convicted criminals.

Zimmerman also took the time to co-write a book called “A Sound in the Night.” She said that the one message she wanted everyone to take home from hearing her today was that you should always hang on to hope, even in the darkest of times.
