One of Indiana County’s major multi-season road construction projects is set to resume later this month.
PennDOT yesterday announced that beginning on Monday, April 22nd, Grove Chapel Road in Rayne Township will be detoured to allow for the construction of a new intersection with Route 119. The detour will use Kimmel Road and Dehaven Road.
The $16 million project began in 2016. In addition to building a new southbound truck climbing lane, it also includes a realignment away from the sharp curves at the top of the hill and the installation of left-turn lanes. Drivers began using the new alignment last fall, although it is only on temporary asphalt that needed some patching in recent weeks.
The new intersection connecting Grove Chapel Road to 119 is expected to be completed next month. The entire project will be completed this summer.
