Last night, the Indiana School Board and Superintendent Michael Vukovich addressed the public about the future of the district and its buildings.
During public comment, some came out in support of keeping the status quo and not closing any of the district’s neighborhood schools, which is one of the options the board is looking at. Option two would be to renovate Ben Franklin School, Close Horace Mann and upgrade Eisenhower and East Pike, which would cost close to $27 million. The Third option is a complete demolition and rebuild of Ben Franklin, the closure of Horace Mann, and upgrades to Eisenhower and East Pike, which would cost at most $47 million. Superintendent Michael Vukovich stressed the board has not made any decisions yet and encouraged public participation.

In other business, the board unanimously approved ending the Summit Learning program due to declining enrollment in the program. The program came under fire as it was implemented without proper notification of district parents.
The Board also approved by an 8-1 vote the dissolution agreement regarding the Indiana Recreation Department. The lone vote against the agreement was from Doug Steve.
And the board also approved new start times for the 2019-2020 school year. For Jr. and Sr. High students, the school day will start at 7:30AM and end at 2:40 PM. Elementary students will have their day start 5 minutes later than the current start time.
