The Pennsylvania Game Commission voted to move the start of Deer Season to the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
Earlier today during their meeting, the commission voted 5-3 to move the first day of Rifle Deer season to the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Preliminary approval was given during a meeting in January, but today’s vote makes it official. Reports say the vote was made as part of an effort to help keep up to date with the changing demographics of hunters, and to create more opportunities for hunters. Since 1963, rifle deer season started on Monday morning but as the years have gone on, many of those who want to hunt haven’t had the opportunity to head out on the first day of rifle deer due to jobs or school.
With the opener now on Saturday, the rifle deer season expands to 13 days, with three Saturdays instead of just two. There’s still no hunting allowed on Sunday.
