The game is actually important for the Pens as it will determine who they will face in the first round of the playoffs.
Scenario 1: If the Pens win in any fashion and the Islanders lose in regulation, the Pens become the #2 seed and will have home-ice advantage as they play the Islanders in the first round.
Scenario 2: If the Pens win in any way, and the Islanders gain 1 point by a tie, Pittsburgh earns the #3 seed and play the Islanders in New York
Scenario 3: If the Pens lose in OT or a shootout, Pittsburgh earns the #3 seed and play the Islanders in New York
Scenario 4: If the Pens lose in regulation and Carolina loses in OT or Shootout, the Pens play the Islanders in New York.
Scenario 5: If the Pens lose in regulation and Carolina wins in any fashion, the Pens drop to the Wild Card and they will face the Washington Capitals in the first round.
