At last night’s Indiana borough council agenda planning session, the council got an update on the construction project at the Community Center Building.
Borough Manager C. Michael Foote said that the flooring on the first floor remains to be done, and even though there was an incident last week where too much weight in books overloaded floor joists, they are on schedule to complete repairs by the end of the month.

In other business, Planning and Zoning Officials with Indiana Borough presented borough council with a final draft of some documents that would go to potential investors to show three qualified opportunity zones that will allow them to invest in Indiana Borough and receive deferral advantages on their capital gains tax. The zones are from 5th street to the west. The planning and zoning office wants to distribute the document as soon as possible, pending any minor changes from borough council.
Finally, Council President Peter Broad issued a statement condemning a privately-owned electronic billboard in Armstrong County that has been displaying controversial and racist messages along Route 422 in Worthington. In that statement, Broad said that Indiana Borough is a “welcoming community” and that the hateful language on display on the billboard “does not foster healthy conversation, nor does it consider the incalculable emotional damage to those it is aimed at.”
