The Center Township Supervisors are joining other townships that are saying they don’t want to pay extra for state police coverage.
During the monthly Supervisors meeting Monday night, Center Township Supervisors Chairman David Smyers said that they have sent a letter to State Representative Jim Struzzi saying they are against the plan proposed by Governor Tom Wolf to assess a per capita fee based on the population of the area. According to Smyers, it would be one fee on top of another.

Under Governor Wolf’s proposal, Center Township fees would boil down to $33 a person.
The supervisors also warn people about burning rubbish and brush fires, saying that some common sense should be employed when the fires are active, including having a garden hose nearby, and staying by the fire until it is completely out. They also remind everyone that burning takes place Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5-9.
If someone has a large amount of garbage, they are reminded that permits to take debris to a nearby landfill will be in effect once again. With the permit, the trash can be disposed of one time at the landfill for a reduced cost. Last year 123 permits were issued.
