The Conemaugh Valley Conservancy yesterday announced a series of six 5K races along public trailways between April and September.
The “Otter Trot” series begins April 27th on the Saltsburg section of the West Penn Trail. Then on May 11th, there will be a race on the Ebensburg section of the Ghost Town Trail. That will be followed on June 8th by a 5K on the Riverside section of the James Mayer Trail in Johnstown, July 27th on the Saltsburg section of the Westmoreland Heritage Trail, August 24th on the Blairsville section of the West Penn Trail, and September 14th on the Murrysville section of the Westmoreland Heritage Trail.
Racers who compete in at least four of the six races will earn points toward an overall series prize for the top three male and female runners.
The Otter Trot 5K races will join two other conservancy events, the 20th Annual Stony-Kiski-Conemaugh Rivers Sojourn in June and the 7th Annual West Penn Trail Triathlon in October, all designed to promote the network of trails and the Conemaugh Conservancy’s preservation work.
