Alda LaRue (Tress) Hazelet age 91, formerly of Indiana, PA, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Metthews Novant Medical Center in Matthews, NC.
She was born in Arnold to Alfred O. and Alda A. Powell Tress and spent most of her life in Indiana, PA until recently moving to Charlotte, NC to be near her daughter.
LaRue attended the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Indiana for many years. She was sustained throughout her life by her faith in God.
She loved to sing and play the piano and organ. She was an avid knitter who completed over 2000 patches which were made into blankets for veterans and the homeless. She loved flowers and birds and people. She treasured her many dear friends in Indiana and enjoyed many new friends at Providence Meadows, her home in Charlotte, where she was known for her stories and sense of humor. Her main desire in life was to be a good wife and mother, and this was her greatest accomplishment.
LaRue is survived by her sister Mary Gooderham, Camp Hill; five children, Susan Mabon and husband James, Charlotte, NC; Theodore Hazelet and wife Paula, Saegertown; Larry Hazelet and wife Elizabeth, Natrona Heights; Paul Hazelet and wife Janice, Gillette, WY; Thomas Hazelet and wife Deborah, Columbus, PA; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband William Wesley Hazelet, her granddaughter Shannon Ploskunak, her sister Luella Tress and a brother-in-law George Gooderham.
Friends will be received from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. on Friday, March 29, at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a funeral service will begin at 1 P.M. with her grandson, Rev. Andrew Hazelet officiating. Private interment will be made in the Hazelet Cemetery, Cherry Tree.
